What are Stem Cells?

Stem cells are how the body heals itself! Right from the point of conception, stem cells are what allows 2 cells to form the entire, complex human body.

There are different types of stem cells found in each part of the body. Most people will have heard of stem cells from Bone Marrow or umbilical cord. More recently, fat stem cells (also known as adipose-derived stem cells), which live in the fat layers of everyone’s fat, have been found. These are more common and more powerful than other stem cells in an adult.

What is a Stem Cell Treatment?

Stem cell treatment is a minimally invasive surgery that is part of the growing field of regenerative medicine. The Method of Stem Cell Regeneration

We use fat stem cells, which are harvested from the patient’s abdominal fat reserves – our body’s richest source of mesenchymal adult stem cells. 

Commonly known as bone marrow has approximately 1,000 times fewer stem cells per volume than fat.

Once we have isolated the specific stem cells, they are then injected into the specific area of damage using real-time arthroscopy guidance.

After injection, these powerful stem cells and their excellent regenerative capacity can potentially and quite dramatically reduce inflammation, encourage the growth of new blood vessels to encourage healing and stimulate the body to repair itself and replace cartilage that has been damaged and worn out over time or been traumatised from injury or overuse.

Ligament injuries today may often be treated with fat stem cells. Partially torn Achilles tendons, rotator cuffs and anterior cruciate ligaments (ACL) in the knee are among the common areas treated.
